On January 30, 2025, a delegation from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP) participated actively in World Pulse Day — an international event initiated by the FAO and celebrated annually to highlight the importance of legumes in ensuring food security, promoting sustainable agricultural development, and supporting healthy nutrition. The delegation included Oksana Tonkha, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation; Vitalii Kovalenko, Dean of the Agrobiological Faculty; and Olha Kravchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Analytical and Bioinorganic Chemistry and Water Quality. This event brought together leading agricultural experts, farmers, representatives of the food industry, environmentalists, and researchers from various countries worldwide.

The program began with a panel discussion featuring: Yurii Havryliuk, Partner and CEO of Barva Invest, Roman Mikulin, Head of the Commercial Department at Vitagro, Daniele Marcomin, Key Account Manager at Oleificio San Giorgio S.p.A., Pavlo Zhovtonizhko, Director of Falkon Agro Group. The panelists shared their perspectives on global trends, export opportunities, the prospects of GMO and conventional soybeans, and strategies for developing the Ukrainian market.

A key highlight of the event was the seminar "Key Aspects of EUDR in the Context of Ukrainian Soybean", dedicated to implementing the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Oksana Prosolenko, CEO & Founder of I.P.Cert., and Kateryna Postolenko, Head of the Sustainability Department at Bureau Veritas Certification Ukraine, introduced attendees to the key provisions of the EUDR and provided recommendations on certification.

The event concluded with a press conference titled "Legumes and Soybean: A Unified Voice for Ukrainian Agribusiness", discussing the creation of the new Ukrainian Legume and Soybean Association. This initiative aims to unite producers and processors of these crops within a single platform.

Overall, the event reaffirmed the critical role of legume in the future of sustainable agricultural development and emphasized the necessity of actively implementing modern technologies in their production.

The NUBiP team expresses its sincere gratitude to the Public Union "Community of Legume Producers and Consumers of Ukraine" for the opportunity to be part of this significant event.
