FOREL and EСOTWINS: Innovations in Biostimulant Production
The business partner of the Eсotwins project, Research and Production Centre "Forel" is one of Ukraine's leaders in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) aquaculture. Through advanced technologies and a scientific approach, the company is actively developing innovative solutions for efficient resource utilization and reducing environmental impact.
As part of Task 2.1 and Task 2.2, the FOREL team has developed a peptide-based biostimulant, produced using hydrolysis technology from fish processing waste (bones, heads, and entrails). The main objective of this biostimulant is to test its effectiveness in field conditions to enhance plant growth, improve productivity, and increase crop quality. The research is being conducted in two agricultural systems — intercrops and monocrops, with experimental plots in Denmark and Ukraine.
The biostimulant has already been tested for compliance with REGULATION (EU) 2019/1009, confirming its safety and adherence to European quality standards.
A crucial phase of the project was Task 4.4, during which samples of the biostimulant were distributed among key stakeholders at the SEB event. This step allowed the team to gather initial feedback from potential users, assess market demand for such bioproducts, and determine possible ways to optimize the production process.
Currently, the FOREL team continues to refine the biostimulant and scale up its production. Further sample preparation is underway for extended testing and distribution among stakeholders at the upcoming "Stakeholder workshop– 2025", scheduled for May in NUBiP. During the seminar, updated research results will be presented, and discussions will be held on potential pathways for integrating the biostimulant into European agricultural practices.
FOREL remains committed to developing ecological initiatives and working on innovative solutions that contribute to a circular economy and the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
