“As part of the ECOTWINS project (project number 101079308 — HORIZON EUROPE), the Second Summer School in Sustainable Agricultural Practices took place on September 16–18, 2025, at the Higher School of International Commerce ESCI-UPF in Barcelona (Kingdom of Spain).”

The event was held in a hybrid format: ECOTWINS project participants attended in person, while more than 150 participants from Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, and other countries joined online.

On the first day, research results of the project participants from the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), led by Professor Bhim Bahadur GHALEY, were presented. Their studies analyzed the productivity of intercropping systems and their role in ensuring sustainable agriculture.

After the lectures, the annual meeting of the ECOTWINS — HORIZON EUROPE project participants took place, with representatives from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), the School of International Commerce (ESCI), and the Research and Production Center ‘Forel’. The meeting focused on discussing the progress of research within the work packages and outlining the necessary tasks.

Natalia RAKSHA (RPC ‘Forel’) presented on the specifics of using plant growth biostimulants derived from fish industry by-products.

Sahar AZARKAMAND and Ibtissam BOUGHZAM from ESCI discussed approaches to assessing the carbon cycle and its characteristics under different agricultural practices, including presenting results from experiments conducted in Ukraine and Denmark.

The research results of the NUBiP of Ukraine team were presented by the project coordinator, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Professor Oksana TONKHA. She analyzed the impact of bioproducts and intercropping not only on crop productivity but also provided an in-depth insight into changes in soil fertility indicators under their application.”

The participants of the Summer School were introduced to nutrient cycling, the specifics of using biochar and other bioproducts, as well as organic waste management by representatives of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Zhan YONG and Sani Nasir HOSSAIN.

The Summer School concluded with a presentation by Oksana TONKHA on agronomic practices for restoring soil fertility and improving crop productivity, which sparked a lively discussion.

At the end of the Summer School, participants received certificates.
