The Summer School within the Ecotwins project has started
More than 70 students from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, including postgraduates and staff, participated in the "Summer School in Sustainable Agriculture Practices and Capacity Building Workshop for Scientific Writing." Among them were representatives from various faculties: agrobiological, economic, plant protection, biotechnology and ecology, mechanical and technological, animal husbandry and aquatic bioresources, and others.
The meeting takes place at the business school in Barcelona (Spain) ESCI-UPF. Personally, four representatives of the university came here: Olena Pikovska, Associate Professor of the Department of Soil Science and Soil Protection named after Prof. M.K. Shykula, Olha Kravchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Analytical and Bioorganic Chemistry and Water Quality, Bohdan Mazurenko, Assistant of the Department of Crop Production, and Irina Shpakovych, postgraduate student of the Department of Genetics, Breeding and Seed Science named after Prof. M.O. Zelensky. 68 participants joined the Summer School online, each of whom will receive a participant certificate.
It is pleasant to note that one of the lecturers of the summer school will be the coordinator of the Ecotwins project, the dean of the agrobiological faculty, Oksana Tonkha.
The first day of the meeting took place in a very pleasant atmosphere. Within the university walls, the students were greeted by the rector of the welcoming university, Albert Carreras, who welcomed us with the words "Welcome to Barcelona in ESCI-UPF."
The lectures started with Ivã Guidini Lopes. He spoke on the topic "Recycled nutrients including composting." Ivã talked about the importance of organic matter in the soil and the proper preparation of compost. The information about the variety of composts, including those obtained with the help of insects, was interesting. The next equally interesting topic was "Sustainable Cultivation."
The next lecturer was Bahadur Ghaley. He spoke on the topic "Pea-barley Intercropping." This topic was particularly interesting as it was based on research conducted in field conditions within the project framework. At the end of the lecture, the lecturer gave a small assignment for the next day: discussing an article written based on the results of Ecotwins research.
Each presentation was accompanied by discussions, and participants eagerly asked questions about pressing issues. At the end of the day, we not only exchanged contact information but also presented small souvenirs from Ukraine.
The Summer School at ESCI-UPF within the Ecotwins project
promises to be exciting. All participants are in a pleasant anticipation.
