Almost 3,000 kilometers away from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine in Barcelona, Spain, at the ESCI-UPF university, the project coordinator Oksana Tonkha, the dean of the agrobiological faculty, presented the report "The State of Soils in Ukraine and Methods for Improving Their Fertility" to the participants of the "Summer School in Sustainable Agriculture Practices and Capacity Building Workshop for Scientific Writing."

Approximately 60 participants attended the presentation online, with 9 present in person.

Oksana Tonkha began her presentation by explaining the current state of soils in Ukraine, the total land area used in agriculture, and highlighted the threats to soils in modern conditions.

She also discussed methods for increasing soil productivity and the role of the Ecotwins project in preserving soil fertility.

During the Summer School, a workshop was held where Sergi Arfelis, after a brief lecture, taught participants how to calculate the carbon footprint.

The lecturer's presentation on the methodology for calculating the carbon footprint using the example of Green H2 sparked a series of discussions among the participants. Roman Zhyla and Larisa Voytenko were among the most active participants. The discussion particularly focused on EROI and hydrogen as a dangerous energy resource.

Thanks to Oksana Tonkha and Sergi Arfelis for their interesting and informative presentations!
